What is a Splint?
A splint is a rigid, but can sometimes be soft, material used to support and immobilize a broken bone. They are used to protect injured bones, ligaments, tendons, and sometimes joints from further injury during the healing process or to get the victim to medical care. Typically splints are used to help with broken bones as they heal and are used to hold the bone as straight as possible after the two ends are set. These splints come in all different sizes and types, not to mention you can fashion one of your own with readily available objects nearby. This site will only discuss the three most common types of splinting and how to properly install them.
