Head-Tilt/Chin Lift Maneuver

The head-tilt/chin-lift is a procedure used to prevent the tongue obstructing the upper airways. This procedure is performed by tilting the head backwards, usually in unconscious patients, and is assisted by applying pressure to the forehead and under the chin. The maneuver should only be used in a patient in which cervical spine injury is not a concern. It is typically taught during most first aid courses as the standard way of clearing a victim's airway.
