Soft Splints
Soft splints use soft materials like a folded blanket or pillow to support an injury. Soft splints differ from rigid ones in that they are not meant to completely immobilize the affected limb. They are typically used to help stabilize the extremity, while allowing slight movement of joints for small normal activities. These splints tend to be more comfortable than their rigid brother, so are regularly used as a longer term solution for minor breaks or injuries. There are many types of soft splints. Some of which are specifically designed for a body part such as an arm, wrist, or hand. Yet others are more adaptable to suit the needs of each possible body part. Some believe there is an advantage to utilizing these soft splints. Depending on the type used, the compression of the splint may provide some pain relief to the person. This can also speed up healing and recovery time by promoting blood flow to the area. However, it is also possible to do quite the opposite, therefore it is recommended you follow the instructions of a medical professional. Below are some examples of soft splints.
